Driftwood #1 & Driftwood #2
When the Bennett Dam was built near Hudson's Hope, BC it created the massive Williston Lake.
Because they never logged the area that would be flooded, the lake is full of snags and driftwood.
I chose these tiny pieces of driftwood and some fallen leaves as my subject for both paintings.
The scenes were composed exactly as you see them, I didn't move even one leaf!
There is such perfect harmony to be found in nature that I seldom
vary my paintings from what I find.

Frosty Morning
This scene is on the outskirts of Fort St. John late last winter. With heavy frost often comes a very cold wind and this was a very chilly morning. I think it still has a certain harsh beauty about it though!

The Island in the River
The title of this painting is in reference to one of my favourite poems "The Lady of Shalott". This is a pretty little place just outside the small town of Hudson's Hope, BC called Alwyn Holland Park. I was lucky enough to capture this picture on a very nice autumn day. There are several of these tiny little islands in the Peace River, the lower parts slowly being eaten away by the flowing water.

Toad River
Not a very romantic name for such a pristine river but that nonetheless is it's name. This was early evening and I was heading up the famous Alaska Highway and saw this lovely scene. By the time one reaches Toad River you're well into the Northern Rocky Mountains and some of the most beautiful country you'll ever see.

Abandoned Farmhouse
The great thing about a farming area is that there are all these old abandoned houses, barns, farm vehicles and relics that to an artist is eye candy! I found this old rooftop slowly sinking into the earth just a few kilometers north of Fort St. John, BC

Spider's Web
Dewdrops clinging to pine needles and a spiders web; a perfect summer morning in Charlie Lake, BC. I tried to capture a little of the Impressionists feel in this painting with little spots of colour suggesting movement in the background.

Door to the Past
This was an old barn; door ajar and boards falling off so you could see right through to the other side. I just loved all the neat angles in this scene I found just on the outskirts of Dawson Creek, BC.

Relic from Yesteryear
This old Massey Harris tractor sat in a field near my home for the longest time before I actually noticed it. Then one very frosty winter morning I drove by and I just happened to have my camera with me! My dad used to have a tractor like that; what a bugger to drive! This one made a good subject for my canvas though!

Autumn Leaves
My partner Tony just loves to drive around and find all these neat little spots to fish. So of course while he's doing that, I'm getting lots of colourful pictures to use later as paintings. I saw this pretty little scene about one hundred feet from the highway, right beside the Peace River.

Sunflower Study #3
A particular favourite flower of mine. I always think of good things when I think of sunflowers. Like driving past fields of them in France. Or like two of my dearest friends; Dana and Brenda. Both have brought a lot of sunlight into my life when all I could see was darkness. This painting is for you, my little sunflowers.

Fishing in Nova Scotia
This fall my boyfriend took me to his childhood home in Nova Scotia.  As a present to him I painted this lovely sunset we witnessed in beautiful Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island. I even painted in a little silhouette of him fishing! What a stunning, colourful, friendly place. I can hardly wait till we go back!

Deadwood
The title of this painting is deceptive. Although the wood itself is useless to humans, it is far from dead. Teaming with all sorts of insects, it is laying the foundation for what will one day be another thriving tree. If only humankind could compost as efficiently as mother nature!

Cape Breton Brook
A lovely little spot in beautiful Cape Breton. Even though we were there in October, the maple trees were just starting to turn a beautiful red. It had been a very rainy summer so the leaves were still lush and green. It was a bit of a shock to the system to come back home to a freezing cold wind and snow!
